Haemorrhoids are a common and annoying problem that often finds a valid help in homeopathy and herbal therapy.
Let’s briefly understand the anatomical causes of this problem. Inside the rectum and around the anus there are some “pads”, useful for the physiological function of this delicate part of our body.
These pads contain veins that may dilate (the same happens to varicose veins on legs), thus causing annoyance, itch and ache.

Varicose veins

Varicose veins on legs are not nice to see, but anal ones are really bothering. And they create embarrassment, so that we only go to a specialist when we cannot take it any longer.
It’s always advisable not to exceed with spicy or heavy food, but when the pain is already there, it’s late for good intentions. We can’t but act!

Purify the liver

First of all, it’s indispensable to quickly purify the liver. Hemorrhoidal veins discharge blood to the portal vein that leads it to the liver, a big detoxifier. Let’s imagine this organ as a huge filter, like the ones removing limescale from our tap water. If the filter is dirty, less water can pass through it and remains longer in the entry tube. And if this tube is our portal vein, blood will be stagnating at its start, i.e. in the  rectal venous plexus, which will automatically swell.

To purify our liver we can use a lot of plants which have been known since ancient times. Today I wish to talk you about Milk thistle, Dandelion and Artichoke.

Haemorrhoids? Let’s try some natural remedies!

Milk thistle

Silybuium marianum is rich in substances that protect our hepatic cells, by preventing them from being killed or hurt by all toxic substances transported by blood.
Besides, it also helps fight off some pathogenic agents that may provoke hepatitis.
We may take Silybuium marianum Mother Tincture, 30 drops 3 times a day. If alcohol is not appreciated or allowed, we may rather take one 50mg capsule 3 times a day.

Taraxacum officinale contains coleretic substances that stimulate the production of bile, as well as cholagogue substances that increase the contraction of the gall bladder to expel bile.
So this plant is very useful to support the liver during digestion. Besides, by increasing the production of bile (which has the function to emulsify fats in food, like detergent on oily dishes), it’s easier to digest and also our intestine is stimulated to empty out more quickly.
I would suggest to take Taraxacum officinale Mother Tincture 50 drops 3 times a day, or one 1g capsule 3 times a day.

Cynara scolymus increases the production of bile and also helps the liver cells to turn toxic substances into innocuous substances that can be removed easily.
We can take Cynara scolymus Mother Tincture, 30 drops 3 times a day, or one 100mg capsule 3 times a day.

I would also recommend some turmeric powder or capsules: although it’s a spice, curcuma is a powerful anti-inflammatory on our digestive mucosas.

Biliary drainage with homeopathic remedies!

Naturally, these plants can be combined together, or also with other plants capable of draining the liver.
A biliary drainage can be done with homeopathic remedies too. This may be necessary for a kinder action on children during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
If we go to a pharmacist and quietly ask him for help with our haemorrhoids, we may have the luck to meet someone expert on homeopathy. He’ll start asking strange questions: no alarm, he just wants to find out the best fitting remedy!

Hamamelis virginiana

Haemorrhoids feel like “crushed”, they seem to blow up. They easily bleed, and blood is dark.
I would suggest Hamamelis virginiana 5CH, 5 granules 3 times a day.

Aesculus hippocastanum

Haemorrhoids feel like being full of stinging pins. They get better with cold. No bleeding.
We can take Aesculus hippocastanum 5CH, 5 granules 3 times a day.

Haemorrhoids after a major constipation, very painful during and after defecation. This situation may also lead to anal rhagades.
Let’s try Ratanhia 5CH, 5 granules 3 times a day and anytime we go to the toilet.

Achillea millefolium

Bright red blood, no pain, no clots: not alarming haemorrhoids.
Achillea millefolium 9CH, 5 granules 3 times a day.

Haemorrhoids tend to prolapse, they feel like falling down. This picture is often related to a fall of the pelvic pavement. Sepia is ideal to handle the situation, although surgery may be necessary.
We may start with Sepia 9CH, 5 granules 3 times a day, or increase the dose to 15CH if necessary, 5 granules 2 times a day.

Also homeopathic and herbal creams may be helpful to soothe the symptoms of haemorrhoids with the addition of some Bach flowers.
